Privacy policy
What happens to information when you read a page on this site. Written to be read in full, not skimmed.
Last updated
Owlery Knits (owlery.pro) is an independent knitting reference. There is no account to create, no newsletter, and no form on this site that asks for personal information. This page describes what is collected, by whom, and what you can do about it.
Information we collect directly
We do not collect any. There is no sign-up, no comment box, no contact form and no download gate. Nothing you do while reading is stored on our servers, because the pages are static files served to you like any other document.
If you write to [email protected] we receive your address and whatever you send. We keep it for as long as it takes to answer and then delete it. It is not added to any list, and it is not shared with anyone.
Cookies and similar technologies
This site sets no cookies of its own. We do not use a session, a login, a shopping cart or a preference cookie. Blocking cookies entirely will not break anything on this site.
Third parties described below may set cookies in your browser when they serve advertising or measure traffic. Those cookies are set by them, not by us, and are governed by their policies.
Third-party advertising and Google AdSense
We intend to display advertising served by Google and its partners in order to fund the site. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and to other sites on the internet.
- Google uses the DoubleClick DART cookie and similar identifiers to serve interest-based advertising.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of interest-based advertising from many vendors at aboutads.info, and in Europe at youronlinechoices.eu.
- Where the law requires it, a consent notice appears before any non-essential cookie is set, and advertising cookies are not set until you agree.
Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can also review and adjust the ad settings Google holds for you at the link above at any time.
Analytics
We may measure aggregate traffic - page views, referring site, approximate country - in order to see which entries are useful. These numbers are reported to us in aggregate and are not used to identify individuals, and we do not attempt to connect them to any other information. Where a jurisdiction requires consent for analytics cookies, they are set only after you agree.
Advertising and editorial independence
Advertising, when present, is served by a third party and is not selected by us. We do not accept paid placements, sponsored entries, or affiliate links inside stitch notes and patterns. No advertiser sees a page before it is published or has any say in what it contains.
Third-party links
Entries link to yarn manufacturers, standards bodies and other references. We do not control those sites and their privacy practices are their own. Read their policies before giving them information.
Your rights under the GDPR
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the processing of your personal data, the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests, and the right to data portability. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time. Our lawful basis for the limited processing described here is legitimate interest in operating and funding the site. Requests can be sent to [email protected] and we will respond within the period the applicable law allows.
Your rights under the CCPA
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what categories of personal information are collected, to request deletion, to request correction, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising on our own behalf. Advertising partners may process data as described above; use the opt-out links to limit that. Requests can be sent to [email protected].
Children
This site is written for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Patterns for children's garments are written for an adult knitter.
Data retention and security
We hold no user data to retain. The site is served as static files, so there is no database of visitors and no account system to breach. Any email you send is retained only for as long as needed to answer it.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. Material changes are described in the revised text rather than made quietly.
